I joined West Virginia University in 2014 and have served as Associate Professor since 2022. In July 2026 I became Interim Chair of the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders, where I lead the division’s undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, its faculty and staff, and its clinical and research operations.

I earned my Ph.D. in Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh, training in Dr. Connie Tompkins’ NIH-funded lab on language comprehension and treatment after right-hemisphere brain damage. My own research has focused on speech motor learning, and more recently on the scholarship of teaching and learning in CSD graduate education.

I hold the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and am licensed in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

I teach neuroscience, speech science, and motor speech disorders across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and have developed or redesigned 19 courses, including online and simulation-based offerings.

I have chaired a Ph.D. dissertation and four master’s theses, mentored undergraduate researchers to poster awards, and advised up to 42 students a year.
